I'm cool with a BBS like this, but then we do lose all our old posts from the old BBS. Also we lose the front page although we could always just make a forum specifically for reviews I guess.
MEGA: I've locked the color profiles only because I would have to make a logo for each profile, and each profile has a completely different size logo which is a bit of a pain.

Oh ok...np. As for having a main page...according to the FAQ, this forum comes with a "portal".
example:
forumer.com/portal.php" target="_blank">http://dappzz.21.forumer.com/portal.php

Hmmm... okay, I see that in the control panel. We'd still need a reviews forum though.

I was told the best I could probably do is get you to sign up for their 24 month term at $6.95/month and get you to use the referral. Then return the referral reward of $20 back to you. Unfortunately that makes your price ~$83 a year. I think the anandtech deal was 50% off for the life of the account. You can either wait for another special or see if there are cheaper alternatives. Sorry I couldn;t help more, unless you'd want to piggyback onto my existing account. I'm just not sure my leftover would be enough for you guys if you consume 30+gb of transfer.
why not go for the 24 month term and if the 50% deal comes up jump on that and let the 24month one expire? We have some members pledging to be able to contribute to offset the cost so what is the risk? We who visit anad's now that they rarely are down and gillbot is a frequent user who can also vouch for that host as well.

I wouldn't leave it at a free forum. Best to buy hosting and if there is a issue, you can take it up with them. The free forums, if they go down, you really can't say to much about it. And I have seen some forumer.com servers down. Including my own, which I have off right now. Mine was down for 2 weeks once. They didn't warn me either. Not sure what was up. Maybe updates.

My vote is for a good commercial host that is reliable and accountable. We had a huge knowledge base on the old board which is very valuable. The money isn't an issue, we can raise that in a heartbeat.
thanks to everyone working on this!!

They have been an EXCELLENT host for me for a while now. There is rarely an issue and if one arises, it is handled promptly.

I still haven't heard diddly, zero, notta, from anyone regarding our last info. zilch
And frankly that ticks me off. My fault for letting it go as it did.
There hasn't been an overwhelming response to get us back up. But, enough to do it if everyone wants back the old info. I'm not positive the last backup I have will even work. I've never had to try so I have no experience in that regard. So all info *might be lost whatever we do.
I'd imagine moreweb would want the whole amount paid upfront to get the 1 or 2 years deal. Either way it isn't much. If any wanted to donate to the fund they'd have to send it to one like FP, nitro, wvjohn, etc.. If paid via paypal. My paypal is frozen because so many have tried getting into my account. They want me to fax in copies of all my personal info and that ain't happening anytime this century.

As mentioned it comes with a portal, there are also various other portals available online. I have more experience with Vbulletin and Invision than I do with phpBB though. I know enough about php and sql to get around, but I would expect far less than others do, just never got into it much.
The biggest issue with free forums is reliability. It would be nice to get an excellent deal on a host to be honest.
Even though they were hosting it for free, it is still kind of disappointing to be left high and dry like they did here. Doesn't seem they care at all from what I could tell here.

I don't know much about what's going on or who runs what. I just sad that this happened to a bunch of guys that I consider my friends on the internet (though I admit that I'm not the most active guy). I spend more time on Anand, but that's only when I need mass appeal, I always considered PCA to be more like home (away from the idiots) & Anand to be more like work. I rather liked the forum that we had & would despite my current humble finances be willing to put in what I've gotten out if it.

i can provide a server, with full mysql database support unlimited transfer and disk space. however this comes with a stipulation. the link speed at which the server is connected is only 12 channels

OK guys, RubberDuckie has been a good friend for several years and asked me about hosting the other day. I run a small hosting biz as a side gig and after reading this thread I thought I'd go ahead and reiterate what he said. I'm willing to host this thing if ya'll want me to free of charge so long as you let me put up some Google ads and you promise to click them from time to time (if everyone clicks 1 ad each day it works ok decent for me).
For the record I run the hosting biz out of my house, but its setup "right". 8Mbps fiber, AC closet, backup gen, RAID 1 on both servers, etc. If ya'll want to take a -*test*-('") drive jump over to www.shopfloortalk.com and see what you think. If you do you might also want to take a peak at www.shopfloortalk.com/logs :D

Mark I thank you just as I thanked RD. But that isn't the direction we will go. If any ads end up on pca, they'll go to pca. We have an option of going with a members host for free (no ads) in about a week. It'll be either that, moreweb or stay here. At this point. People here really don't like ads, including myself.
Thank you again for your offer. :)

No worries; if ya'll ever need a place to land in the future just ask. I do understand the dislike for ads; I include myself in that group, but alas I've gotten older and realize now that nothing in life is actually free... even on the net.
