Automotive GPS Recommendation I would like to get m wife a GPS Navigation system for Christmas. Any recommendations or specific brands/models to avoid would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I've heard great things about the TomTom units.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 360 and am fairly happy with its performance. The display has good visibility and it has fast GPS calibration and response times.

.I had a TomTom 510, it was good. My brother had a Garmin c340, it was better. I sold the Tomtom and bought a Garmin c550.
The main difference, the c340 gave audible turn by turn directions using the street names, like turn left on Oak Street in 3/10ths of a mile, the TomTom just gave turn by turn saying "turn left in 3/10 ths of a mile"
Also the c340 tells you which lane you should be in on multilane roads.
However, I bought the c550 because it was a newer version of the c340 and the c550 has bluetooth etc.

I've had a TomTom 910 for almost 2 yrs now and have no complaints.
As for upcoming turns, mine tells you and shows an arrow with distance to the turn. It then zooms in with more detail so there's no way you'ld miss your turn.
My ONLY pet peeve with it is that it doesn't automatically turn off with the key as my two older, cheaper Garmin units do.
What I did and anyone should do is google reviews of them. The info's easily found and with that you can make a fairly easy decision depending on how much $$ you want to spend.
