Chat Room
Anyone know good chat room software? My daughter would like to have a private chat room with her friends but I dont want it open to the public. I have my own server and can install whatever is necessary. I would like a chat room where email registration is required.

why not just make a private IRC channel? also don't most IM programs have chat functionality?

Please explain. What is a private IRC Channel? I want something for my 10 year old daughter to manage and control who is in the room. IRC channel is a specific program. I would like something web base (java). If IRC channel is a stand alone program then it is no good....I need something I can host. Thanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC It's a very old chat system from the early days of the internet (before WWW). Might be a bit too techie for your daughter though - I dunno, never used it. I thought you could setup a private chat room in any instant messaging service? Do you want text or voice? You can have a private group conversation in Skype. If you're paranoid about setting up your own server you can setup a TeamSpeak2 server.

You could also try IPSwitch.. They have some software that you can install on your server that allows private chat, but I don't know if it's only for local network or not.. GL! eGo
