Multi core AMD, whats best low cost?
Render up to four times faster with Multi-threaded Rendering (up to four threads) on machines with multiple CPUs. I think that applies to multi core as what I read for the software. I may buy this program for video animation before long, if I do and it works for me, what's the best bet for Multi core AMD at a decent price, board and Cpu? How much ram could I load up? I'd either run W2K or XP Pro. Now another question, if a program says it can use Multi core or Cpu's, does the windows O/s have to support it also? Since the program also runs single CPU the requirements I think go back as far as 98SE! So what happens if I build a dual core system with W2K and run this program? Does it use both cores? Program is Poser 7, and I called and can get it full complete version as academic for $150 instead of normal $250. We know what my kid is getting for Christmas now :lol:

First off forget Win2K. Win2K doesn't support multiple cores anywhere near as well as XP (and Vista supports dual cores even better than XP, but I'd still recommend XP). Secondly, are you staying with AMD out of loyalty? Bottom line, although I'm an AMD fan, Intel Core-Duo 2 is you best bang for the dollar. Now if you're trying to save money and you have an existing AMD Socket 939 or AM2 mobo that has a single core CPU on it now then you can cheaply benefit from dual core by popping in a dual core CPU.

I should have mentioned best in price range, I don't hardly go above $100 for anything anymore. Got tired of paying $200-$300 for something then in 4-6months it's price drops to half. Like my first DVD burner! I don't like Intel much, bad feelings from many years ago still. Unless allot better performance for same money I would probably stay with Amd anyway. I suppose it's both a loyalty to AMD and a Grudge against Intel.

well the x2 5000 black box is $129 I believe and it is the best deal out there.
