Open Office 2.0 { and Java update }
i am getting prompted to install la-*test*-('") Java update, and notice java.com is offering OpenOffice 2.0 d/l @ same time. i never reinstalled MS Office 2003 after my lappie fubar-ed. you reckon OpenOffice decent software? i would only use it for letter writing, fax templates and .pps files. anyone ever use this? would OpenOffice .docs be compatible for viewing in Word? thank u : )

OpenOffice can read Word Docs, and I suppose OpenOffice can save in Word format. I've heard good things about the la-*test*-('") version.

Open Office is very close to looking like Office from Microsoft. I was really surprised at the look and feel. I'm still using MS Office due to my job, as I take some of it home to work on.

While I don't use it myself, all our PCs leave the shop with Open Office installed.

For free software, it is quite good. Nice advantage is the ability to save your documents as PDF if needed. It is like a Microsoft Office replacement almost.

thank u! i did read some reviews of OpenOffice, but always good to get opinions from you guys : ) as to Java update, is there anything special i need to do? this is what is showing in CP @ mo: - but i do not remember installing them,, am reckoning were already on lappie when purchased. will it automatically pre-select where/which folder to install Java? { you know how nervous i am w/installing things : ) }. if not, where should i save the Java .exe ? ~ and can i delete the .exe once installed? thank u : )

once you get use to it, youll like it, and it beats paying 600.00 for MS We use it on all the machienes here at work. We pay over 20,000 a year on software licenses, OO saves us a good deal of $
