todays gas prices
speedway by my house has reg at $3.14 gallon tonight .wonder what it be tomorrow :(

RubberDuckie- 11-06-2007

Local news predicts the price will be over $4 this time next year. Right now it is $2.98 and rising. Not sure what to do if it goes any higher...this is getting crazy.

FlyingPenguin3- 11-06-2007

I've been expecting this. Frankly I can't understand why it took so long. Barrel of oil has been above $90 for over a month :(

shadow250- 11-06-2007

its 3.27 here. :x

They are just getting us ready to revel $4/$5 gas in the next couple of years. As consumers, we can somewhat control the price by using less. I'm already in a carpool with 2 other guys, as we drive ~25 miles one way to work. We are thinking about adding one more to help save. This is the same strategy we used in the '70s to combat the shortages and price.

My Wife and I traded in her 05 Dodge Stratus Sunday for a 2004 Civic Hybrid :D

Err- 11-06-2007

Paid $3.25 for 89 last night. In all honesty though, there's not much as a consumer that we can do to curve gas prices, short of everybody just not driving. Even if we all drove 50mpg cars, the gas price would continue to rise.

I was about to rebuild the engine in my 4X4 truck, maybe get a whopping 11mpg if lucky, maybe I'll just wait or sell it. Maybe I'll go high compression performance, just burn EVER CLEAR in it. We all need to start burning more alky fuels and less gas, but I can't even buy it around here. One place I buy E85 (85%alky/15% gas) I go past on some trips but not been there for awhile. Even my old truck and other older stuff runs fine when I mix that like 10gal E85 and 5gal unlead. So even if the vehicle don't run great on E85 we can mix other gas with it and blend our own E50 or such. My 85 Ford truck was about shot anyway, but it ran on E85 though it was a bit rough so I mixed in unlead and I think it was about 50%alky/50%gas where it runs fine. Alky is far better in many ways than gas. First it cleans the engine and fuel system, like running fuel cleaners. Better for the enviroment also. Need some gas for keeping the engine lubed on top end. Most the money should stay in our country, not fund countries that hate us! And growing crops in our country for fuel helps the farmers and creates more jobs. Alky is not perfect but far better than giving our money to the next OSMA or Sadam for oil. Some really old stuff may have rubber parts that may be harmed by alky, but I think all manufactors stopped using those type parts around late 70's or so, maybe it was early 80's. We the people need to DEMAND that the government start looking out for our interests! We need to damand the right to do things for ourselves! Anyone can brew alky at home just fine if you have a place to do it. Having to have permits and jump through loopholes is nuts. If you can cook you can make alky, it's just rather you can do it legally or not. As for safety alky is safer than gas also! Alky can be made from many things, not just corn, but that's all you normally hear about. Just about anything high in sugars will work, even lots of wild growing plants. Mix sugar, water, yeast, let sit about 14-20days and distill. To distill you only need about 175F-190F and you can get that from the sun easy enough with a solar deflector for a small still many places, summer is better than winter of course. Not much waste, after the alky is cooked off, reuse the liquid that's left over in the still to make the next batch. So water and any sugars that may be left are not tossed out. Just strain out any dead yeasts occasionaly. Also if you ferment for awhile then remove most the liquid and some yeast and start a new batch you should not need to buy much yeast. Let the stuff removed finish fermenting in a second container. Alky kills the yeast when it get too high, so never letting the first batch fully ferment to that point keeps live yeast active and breeding. So if it weren't for stupid laws, mostly involving tax money, you could be making your own fuel. Fun, easy, and YES far cheaper than buying GAS. Don't ask how I know all this :)

I use diesel and it was $3.29 tonight. Ouch

BillyGoat- 11-08-2007

Im dying here, my commute is about 60 miles a day each way, plus driving I do to pickup my kids on weekends and such. All my money goes into the tank. NJ has some of the lowest prices in the nation, and Im paying 3.00 roughly, more if I end up having to buy in Philly.

Executioner- 11-08-2007

Prices are going up daily here in Southern California. Regular is $3.25/gal. Diesel here is $3.75/gal due to the sulfur that had to be removed for California.

vwkess- 11-10-2007

3.06 to 3.14 for regular out here near Hershey/Harrisburg PA. Diesel at about 3.59. Glad I work from home now :)

gillbot- 11-11-2007

IMHO, don't run E85 if your car/truck was not designed for it. E85 can be highly corrosive and destroy the fuel system.
