Weird Memory problem I have an older 478 board ASUS P4S800 it has 3 slots for regular DDR Ram, so far I was running 2x512MB.
I bought 2 1GB strips of 2700RAM of e-bay. It says on it that they are 128Mx64 1GB PC2700 DDR RAM.
However my BIOS only dedects 512MB of RAM on each strip. When I however scan my system with the CRUCIAL scanner, the scanner dedects them as 1GB strips.
Anybody know what could be wrong here?

The Crucial scanner is likely reading the SPD of the memory and what it can do.
The SPD will mention how much memory it is, the speeds it supports and the various other settings it supports such as CAS latency. It will also pick up the manufacturer, serial number, etc.
It is certainly possible that either A) Your motherboard has compatibility issues with the memory or B) You have two defective sticks. The second possibility is far less likely and can be easily disproved by putting the memory into another computer.

I remember that some of the older motherboards had issues with certain types of high density memory. you might want to google your mb and high density memory or whatever brand it is you bought

according to Crucial my board can use High or low density memory, even mixed.

RMA'd this RAM, since apparently my board does not like high density. The only problem low density will cost me twice as much. Should have ordered from Crucial right of the bat. Maybe one day i'll learn.
Also found out that I might not even be able to run more then 1.5GB of ram, some of the documents about this board say that you can run 3x512 2700 Ram but only 1GB stick of 4000 Ram. Why have 3 slots if you cant use them, strange.

One nice thing about Crucial is if you look it up in their database it WILL work on your mobo, no if ands or buts. That's the only place I order RAM for my clients.

yes, and normaly that is all I reccomend to anybody that asks. And i did check with crucial first (and shold have bought) but the other deal was half the money, now I know why. And hopefully I'll remember next time.
